Keeping up to date

Keeping up to date records includes ensuring that the online checking process  has been activated for everyone eligible to have a DBS certificate, and that the certificate is reviewed every 3 years when it is renewed.

The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Update Service allows:

  • applicants to keep their DBS certificates up to date
  • employers to check a DBS certificate

The service is for standard and enhanced DBS checks only.

Both the Employer and Employee / Volunteer need to register for the Update Service.

You must register for the Update Service within 30 days of the certificate being issued.
