Workshops for 2013

We offer briefing events about the changing world of safeguarding and how to prepare your organisation for its changed responsibilities.  The topics will be tailored to address the specific issues of your sector and to cascade to staff and members.

Briefing on the Disclosure and Barring Service and new legislation

An overview of the implications of The Disclosure and Barring Service, Protection of Freedoms Act and management of criminal records and certificate certificates systems for those responsible for managing the criminal records disclosure process.

Strategic Safeguarding case study – Parkinson’s UK

A case study of how Safeguarding Matters helped Parkinson’s UK develop their comprehensive safeguarding policy with supporting documents and scenario based training which is now seen as best practice within the charity sector. While acknowledging that cases of abuse are very rare, it protects not only people with Parkinson’s, but also volunteers, supporters and staff. It is a cohesive system of proportionate measures, both preventative and reactive, that ensure  everyone is mindful about safeguarding. Discussion of the culture changes necessary and managing the increased organisational responsibilities of the new legislative environment are included.

Beyond the law – designing & cascading Safeguarding policies

An engaging 2½ hour  workshop to consider the possible scenarios for safeguarding in the future.  We unravel the recent changes, high profile cases and discuss their likely impact on your organisation. Group discussion will consider personalised scenarios to support the development of  your strategic plans and enable sharing of best practice.  This workshop is for a small, high level group size, facilitated by an experienced safeguarding policy specialist.
